Al Bilali Soudan is a group of traditional musicians from Timbuktu, Mali, who come from a well-known Tuareg griot family of master musicians. The group is known for its improvisational performances on traditional instruments such as the tehardant, a 3-stringed instrument widely heard across West Africa. They are considered contemporary masters of their genre and have released two albums with a third due in mid-2023. Despite being unable to perform in person at events such as WOMEX and globalFEST due to pandemic restrictions, the group has received positive reviews for their video showcases and was able to perform in person at WOMEX in October 2022 where this performance and interview was filmed.
