Selma Uamusse

Selma Uamusse is a Mozambican singer who makes Portugal her home. She has sung professionally since she was a teenager, having a remarkably diverse career in music.

Selma explores the roots of her country of origin, using Mozambican rhythms and lyrics in native languages, using traditional instruments such as timbila and mbira, combining everything with electronics and other references that mirror her diverse influences.

Her music is a manifesto for the harmony that surrounds us, a positive look at the world. A form of struggle and hope for a freer society, with more love. Features that go beyond music, as seen in 2019 when Selma, as mentor and organizer of the movement "Mão Dada a Moçambique", brought together more than fifty artists and political figures who contributed with their voice and presence in the revenue raising event, transmitted by RTP, to combat the humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the passage of Cyclone Idai, in Mozambique.

Selma will be Co-Hosting SAMA in Lisbon in 2022 as we cover they myriad of artists coming to WOMEX to showcase their music and share their culture.
