“SAMA: To Listen” is a documentary by Darek Mazzone, a filmmaker, radio host, and cultural connector whose lifelong work has centered on the transformative power of music.

Filmed across Morocco, Turkey, and Malaysia, the film explores the transcendent force of Sufi music—how sound, rhythm, and devotion can lift us beyond language and belief.

Through intimate encounters with musicians, instrument makers, and seekers, SAMA: To Listen reveals how tradition can evolve to connect generations and cultures. Seen through the eyes of an immigrant and lifelong traveler, the film is both personal and universal—a meditation on how music, art, and shared experience help us rediscover our common humanity.

Part of the broader mission of SAMA: Music + Art, this project continues Mazzone’s lifelong pursuit: to use music as a bridge between worlds and as an invitation to listen deeply—to each other, and to the pulse that unites us all.
