Music journalist and composer Peter Culshaw released his first album, Music from the Temple of Light, under his new record label, Iskra Records. The album featured esoteric Christian and Sufi chants, as well as Hindu mantras, creating a spiritual journey that incorporated different paths to the same goal. It was recorded in Mumbai and Odesa, and the album blended Eastern and Western sounds, led by minimal tantric piano, providing meditative music for a chaotic age.
Culshaw's early influences from growing up in Leicester with its South Asian music scene were also reflected in the album. The album's production was funded by unlikely sources, including a car left to him by his friend, the late Malcolm McLaren, and a successful 200-1 bet on his home team Leicester City F.C. winning the Premier League. Music From the Temple of Light was the first release of a series of releases with a spiritual theme on Iskra Records.
The label's next release, scheduled for September 2023, was a project under the name AEROCLUBE 81, described as an "Anglo-Bahian fever dream." Further releases included a never-released opera Culshaw worked on in Havana in 1996 with Buena Vista Social Club's arranger Juan De Marcos Gonzalez, using many of the same musicians from BVSC. The album was released in April 2023.
