PIQSIQ
Tiffany Ayalik and Inuksuk Mackay form the Inuit throat singing duo, PIQSIQ, merging haunting northern beauty with traditional and contemporary compositions. Their name, inspired by the Inuktitut word for a storm that makes snow seem to rise, reflects their artistic vision that challenges perceptions. Growing up in the extreme environments of Nunavut and Yellowknife, the sisters bonded over katajjaq, Inuit throat singing, which they later embraced as a powerful act of cultural reclamation after learning about its historical suppression. Over two decades, PIQSIQ has evolved from traditional performances to innovative shows that blend technology and audience interaction, creating unique, spontaneous compositions. With five albums released, including Altered The Timeline and Spectral Harmonies, they continue to enchant audiences worldwide by weaving their personal experiences and the essence of their environment into their music.
